Getting Caught Driving High
Drivers do not think they will get busted for driving high
According to a poll by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, the vast majority of Americans think it is unlikely that drivers will get caught driving while high on weed. Nearly 70 percent of respondents said they think it’s unlikely that drivers will get busted for drugged driving.
The AAA survey also found that in the past month, an estimated 14.8 million people have gotten behind the wheel within an hour of using marijuana.
As you undoubtedly know, driving while under the influence of marijuana in Tennessee can result in punishment that includes hefty fines, suspension or revocation of your driver’s license, mandatory drug education classes and more.
The AAA Foundation survey also found that 7 percent of Americans say that they do not think there is anything wrong with driving after recent marijuana use.
Nearly 14 percent of millennials said that in the past month, they have driven a vehicle within an hour of using weed. Ten percent of Generation Z members also acknowledged the behavior.
Eight percent of men said they drove within an hour of pot use in the past 30 days; 5 percent of women reported the same.
The Tennessee Public Affairs Director for AAA said, “Law enforcement officials are getting more sophisticated in their methods for identifying marijuana-impaired drivers and the consequences are not worth the risk.”
Those who are arrested for drugged driving or driving under the influence of alcohol should contact a Chattanooga attorney experienced in effective defense against drugged driving and DUI charges.
